About Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter (1930-2008), one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, has left us a huge body of work from a long career as actor, playwright, poet, screenwriter and political activist. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2005, with the citation, “who in his plays uncovers the precipice under everyday prattle and forces entry into oppression’s closed rooms.” He can also be very funny!
Pinteresque is now a frequently used descriptor of writing, in particular that which has a sense of menace and featuring dialogue marked by many pauses.
