Preparing to Perform Workshop

Preparing to Perform Workshop

Event Details

  • Date:

How can you ensure you have prepared yourself for your stage performance?

Preparing for a performance means getting yourself mentally and physically in the right place.  Achieving a level of readiness to perform – with your body, your breathing, your voice and your concentration – all requires the right preparatory process.  Whether you are a beginner actor with no experience (and want to give it a go), or you have stage experience and want to brush up on the basics, this workshop will offer tools and techniques to help you establish your “stage presence” and prepare for the curtain going up.

Topics in this workshop include:

  • Stage craft & physical stage presence
  • Complete body physical warm-ups
  • Breathing and vocal warm-ups
  • Techniques to enhance individual and cast concentration
  • Techniques to enhance confidence

Participants will also have the opportunity to “perform” a very short monologue as a method to bring all of the workshop learnings together.

No prior acting or performance experience necessary – this is an opportunity to jump into performance for the first time!

We’ll run the workshop with a minimum of 5 participants and maximum 10.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing, be ready to work without shoes and occasionally lay on the floor for certain exercises.  Please bring water and light snacks with you as necessary and a large towel or mat you can use for the floor exercises.
