The play reading in June will be of a highly amusing spoof of murder mystery plays, The Murder Room, written by Jack Sharkey.
Poor Mavis, stuck in an unhappy marriage with her husband, Edgar Holister. What’s a woman to do? BAM! BAM! BAM! Three shots fired from a target pistol and down he goes. Now Mavis and her lover can live off Edgar’s fortune “happily ever after.” But after stashing Edgar’s body in “The Murder Room,” they discover that the target pistol was loaded with blank cartridges – and the body is missing! With the unwanted help from Constable Howard, a nosy housemaid, the inspector of police, a dim-witted daughter and her millionaire fiance, they try to solve the mystery of the disappearing body. This British comedy/murder-mystery farce by Jack Sharkey will have you laughing – and guessing – all the way through.
“Murder has never been this funny. A spoof of all crime thrillers… it is good clean mirth all the way. The quick, smart, extremely well timed dialogue of Jack Sharkey comes through loud and clear [with] never a dull moment.” – Times
