Announcing Our September Production: FOUR ONE-ACT PLAYS

We are happy to announce the line-up for our Evening of One Acts, set to take place on 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 September. Get ready for an evening of suspense and psychological tension as FEST brings four distinct one-act plays to the stage this September. Each piece brings something unique — and now, we’re looking for performers to bring them to life! 

1) THE BLIZZARD by David Ives

Directed by Kai Cameron

A couple’s quiet night in the country turns into a storm of suspicion when two strangers seek shelter from the snow.

Cast:

  • Neil (Male, 25–40): Horror movie director with a type A personality; he is married to Jenny
  • Jenny (Female, 25–40): Neil’s wife, a classic housewife, looking for more meaning in life
  • Salim (Male, 25–40): Suspicious air about him; everything he says towards Neil and Jenny has an unsettling tone
  • Natasha (Female, 25–40): Unapologetically direct, slightly unsettling, with a hint of a foreign accent

2) THE WAY OF ALL FISH by Elaine May

Directed by Gerrit-Milena Falker

In this razor-sharp black comedy, a power game of ping-pong is played between a self-absorbed executive and her seemingly drab secretary.

Cast (two women of any age):

  • Margaret Asquith: Demanding, meticulous boss
  • Joan Riverton: Underpaid, unnervingly intense secretary

3) SORRY, WRONG NUMBER by Lucille Fletcher

Directed by Jeff Book

In this suspense classic, a bed-ridden woman accidentally hears a murder plot—and realises she may be the target.

Cast (1 lead woman, 3 women playing multiple supporting roles, 3 men playing multiple supporting roles):

  • Mrs Stevenson (Lead, female,40–60): sickly, bed-ridden, querulous and neurotic
  • Sergeant Duffy (Supporting lead male, male 40+): local police officer
  • 1st Man (Male 30+)
  • George / Lunch counter man / Western Union man (Male 30+)
  • Miss Curtis (Chief Operator) / 5th Operator (Female 30+)
  • 1st Operator / 3rd Operator / Information Operator– (Female 20+)
  • Hospital Receptionist / 2nd Operator / 4th Operator (Female 20+)

4) THE DUMB WAITER by Harold Pinter

Directed by Martha Reece

Two hitmen wait in a basement as mysterious instructions come down a dumbwaiter. Who’s pulling the strings?

Cast: No age or gender requirements 

  • Ben: Calm, assertive
  • Gus: Curious, deferential

All auditionees will read for both roles. We are looking for dynamic interplay—no need to come up with a set interpretation.

Keep in mind that the specified playing age refers to the age range that an actor can

realistically portray in a role, regardless of their actual age, meaning the actor could be older

or younger than the playing age.
