DESCRIPTION:

What does it mean to be “truthful under imaginary circumstances”, in other words, to act?

In FEST’s summer acting workshop, you’ll gain insight into necessary skills such as active listening, being present, inhabiting your body, and having purpose. This is a workshop for all levels, including those who have performed multiple times. Drawing from different methods and techniques, the FEST coach will ensure that, whatever your level of experience, you will gain skills and add to your acting toolbox in a safe, creative and especially fun space to learn.

Short scenes will be assigned to everyone on the first day and these texts will be used to further hone your acting skills throughout the workshop. It is expected that participants will attend all four days of the workshop as scene partners rely on each other throughout. Participants should bring water and food to maintain their energy during the 6-hour days.

Your Instructor:
Course instructor Jim Phetterplace Jr. has a degree in acting and directing for the stage and nearly 20 years of experience interpreting characters and coaching others to do the same. Jim performed and directed for eight years in Chicago before coming to Germany, where he has worked in English and German with FEST, Shakespeare Frankfurt, the English Theatre, the European Central Bank Theatre Ensemble, Oper Frankfurt and the Interkulturelle Bühne, and been involved in one music video and two German-language short films. Jim has written theatre adaptations of works by Native American poet Beth Brant, and is currently co-writing a musical adaptation of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata.
